Fishing
2026
13” x 38”, tapestry with cotton and wool yarns
The reference photo comes from a childhood photo album, and this work is my first tapestry piece. I do not include it in the Family Photos series for that reason, although it does fit in the same inspiration. The loose weave which composes the border is similar to a fish net, catching the image within it, mirroring the action of the figure depicted catching a fish. My goals were color blending/varied gradients in the weave, and to work with more complex shapes. The conception of the idea behind image choice was similar to the other ones, but this is a photo of myself. Fishing is something I have not had much opportunity to do as an adult, but spending time outdoors used to be my main hobby. Growing up homeschooled in my early years, I was out in the backyard or going on “field trips” every day, rain or shine. As an artist now my life is mostly indoors. Fishing itself is not a specific passion of mine, however I liked this photo so much because it’s often what I wish I was doing instead.
